Despite this, we still put up with badly designed interfaces that have been inherited through the digital era and not updated. ‘Copy and Paste’ is a prime example of this. We still copy over elements by accident because we simply cannot see what we have just copied. MIMO is a tool that shows you what has being copied while allowing you to copy multiple items at once. For every copy you make, MIMO also saves it in its integrated hard drive so that previous copies can be accessed and used on a different computer. Simply highlight the text, image, file or link and slide up on the preferred slider and then this will appear in the software application(below) that pops up when something is copied and will float away if not used. There is very little sense of the scale of typography and colours often look different. This results in multiple printouts to test the different font sizes and colours. Spector is a tool that helps bridge the difference between the digital screen and the physical print. The plants, nestled in ceramic pots, balance in a metal structure supported by a stone base. The two halves represent the physical and mental wellbeing that make us whole. The aim of this project was to explore invisible systems and if we use augmented reality what products could communicate to us. I investigated external hard drives as I believe it is difficult to know what is on each drive when you have multipies. This can be a labourious procedure when trying to find a file. I wanted to explore how augmented reality could resolve that. https://fionaoleary.ie/Sonicbells Fri, 15 Jan 2016 20:03:14 +0000 Fiona O'Leary https://fionaoleary.ie/Sonicbells Sonicbells teaches, enhances and lets you play with exercise through sound.Our concept was to explore the relationship between sound and physicality in the area of fitness. We chose to focus on kettlebells and them being the instrument. The users are free to create sound through choreography or vice versa. Sonicbells allows you to place your smartphone inside the kettlebell and through the Sonicbells app, you can either choose a strict series of exercise programs, where we aim to teach the correct method of exercise through sound. First, create sounds by freely interacting with the SonicBell and let your movements be guided by the different weights, then create a musical atmosphere and enjoy group exercise among friends by playing the Sonicbells together. In May 2015, Sonicbells was selected to exhibited as part of at the Ugly Duck in Bermondsey. The project was also exhibited in Sónar+D the international conference organized by Sónar that covers the digital transformation of the creative industry. It involves thinking and talking about your wishes for how you are cared for in the final months of your life. We created a prototype app that is a guide to understanding Advanced Care Planning for the NHS. The current system of Advance Care Planning presents such problems as cold language, hard to amend, and difficult to comprehend the consequences of some decisions. The app allows the user to see a range of decisions for present and future care and stop at any point and pick up later. Project with Being and Dying Studio Leader Ivor Williams in Fabrica. My approach was to use the Reality Editor for automation and aligning products and actions that made sense. The idea is centred around when you go to bed, you turn off the main light and you open your book and your bedside light goes on. It is a bookmark that is touch sensitive to when the book is open or closed. Most of the time when we fall asleep, we either leave the light on or fumble around to turn the light off, using this idea the bedside light turns off when you need it to and turns on when you need it to. It could be taken a step further and connected to the mainlight too so that turns off and the bedside light turns on. It is a very simple project but can be quite effective. The first proposal targeted the border between Tourcoing and Mouscron and how can we bring these communities together. The second proposal concerns itself with the city centre of Tourcoing and how to rehabilitate the city centre. The last proposal is focused on Fives Cail Babcock. An old factory area where locomotives used to be build and is now being developed into a residential area.
